Cypress and Conexant Team to Deliver USB Bus-Powered Solution to "Watch TV" on PC

Collaborative Reference Design Kit Enables PC Users to Import Home Videos Onto Their Desktop or Laptop

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Feb. 9, 2005— Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY), the market leader in USB, today announced that it has teamed with Conexant to send video, audio, and data over a single USB 2.0 connection to the PC host for immediate playback and storage. The reference design is a low-cost solution -- eliminating the multiple wires for audio and video. The first result of the combined effort is Conexant's CX25840/1/2/3 Audio/Video and Data (AVD) USB 2.0 streaming reference design kit (RDK) based on Cypress's EZ-USB FX2(TM) USB solution.

First of its kind, the RDK delivers high-quality video, excellent stereo audio quality, and data services over a single USB 2.0 cable to the PC. The RDK meets USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) bus-powered requirements; therefore no external power supply cords are required.

"Together, Cypress and Conexant are enabling PC users to create multimedia entertainment on their PC for immediate playback and storage," said Trevor Davis, director of marketing for the wired business unit in Cypress's Personal Communications Division. "It's as easy as connecting a cable from your TV to the AVD RDK and a cable from the RDK to your PC -- and you're watching or recording your favorite TV program."

"Our AVD reference design satisfies international markets by supporting broadcast data services, such as teletext and Moji, which is a must for the European and Japanese markets," said Ed Munar, Senior Product Manager at Conexant. "We address the North American, European, Asia-Pacific and Japanese broadcast audio, video and data requirements and look forward to future collaborative USB AVD streaming solutions that will benefit our worldwide customers."

The AVD USB streaming solution is complete with drivers, gerber files, schematics (for multiple tuners from Philips and LG), and bill-of-materials. The platform is based on Windows Device Model (WDM) driver architecture that is compatible with Windows XP and Media Center Edition (MCE) operating system and is Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certified. Additionally, the drivers are compatible with multiple third-party software applications for watching TV and burning to DVD.

Pricing and Availability

The AVD solution is available now. For more information please visit the Conexant website at: http://www.conexant.com/products/entry.jsp?id=922.
